Elizabeth Park
In the heart of Hartford there is a beautiful park. Elizabeth Park was opened in 1904 and is home to the most beautiful rose garden I have ever set my eyes on. The majority of the park was owned by Charles M. Pond and he will the park to the city upon his death so it could be sustained. While at the park my family and I had a chance to learn a little of the history, the garden wasn’t always a rose garden. The first director of the garden decided that it could be a rose garden and the only reasoning behind it was his words of “it would please the people.” That type of selfless devotion to the people is what has made this garden so amazing. It grew from a small little park of only 100 bushes. Over the years those bushes have grown and multiplied to what today is over 15,000 bushes. The park covers a huge 102 acres. Its one of the biggest parks I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting and I’m glad I did. It’s a place that I would visit time and time again. There are roses of all colors, red, yellow, white, and much more. I was really amazed at how many different types of roses there were in the garden.
