Some of the criminals that Alcatraz Prison played home to were Al Capone, George “Machine Gun” Kelly, Robert “Birdman of Alcatraz” Stroud and Alvin “Creepy” Karpis. Although the prison gained much fame over the inmates that were incarcerated there, Alcatraz is most famous for its location. Alcatraz is located on the island in the middle of the bay, and the bay was, and still is, known for its frigid waters, making it nearly impossible to escape from Alcatraz’s cold and damp walls. There is only one known escape in the entire history of Alcatraz Prison.
