Renting A Vehicle In Split, Croatia
My wife and I just returned home from a long vacation. We were lucky enough to spend some time wandering around the Mediterranean coast. We visited some most amazing cities while we were there, places like Santorini, Athens, Venice, Rome and Barcelona. However, there was one city, in particular, that we were very excited to see, and that city is Split in Croatia. The city just recently opened its port for cruise ships, allowing for an influx of visitors to crowd its streets, shops and restaurants.
As my wife and I walked down the hallway to catch the tender going to shore, we were greeted with an absolutely amazing panoramic view of the city of Split. The crowded buildings lined the foothills of the surrounding mountains, as well as clusters of building that found their way up the side of the mountain. To the left, we saw a marina that hosted some of the most magnificent sailboats that I have ever seen. The mast of one of the sailboats boomed high in the sky and split the sun in half, causing an interesting, reflecting glint on the surface of the deep blue water. As the tender arrived at the dock, we saw the 1700 year old castle, the city’s landmark, and it was surrounded by modern shops and restaurants, something I found to be quite interesting. M wife noticed that the locals were using the same markets and restaurants that the tourists were using. I guess we made it there before the city turned into a big “tourist town”.
We were very pleased with the city itself; however we were quite disappointed when we found out that all the activities were shut down, due to the fact that it was Sunday. We were perplexed about what to do; I mean there are only so many times you can walk in and out of a castle, no matter how beautiful it is. So, what we decided to do was rent a car and go see what the rest of the city had to offer. We were told about a pretty little park that was about an hour away, so we jumped in the rental car and headed to the park.
That is the great thing about renting a vehicle, we were able to just get out and see what the rest of the city had to offer. If we didn’t decide to rent a car, we would’ve been stuck in the area around the port with nothing to do. Keep a rental car in mind the next time you find yourself on vacation and nothing to do. With a rental vehicle, you have the freedom to go where ever you want and see what the city has to offer.
