Statue of Liberty

Statue of LibertyNow if you remember were still in New York, we are spending some time with our family and preparing for Christmas. Our car is at the shop getting it’s tire fixed and we haven’t really bothered to go pick it up. The entire family left to visit our cousins for a few days, and we wanna do something to pass the time and entertain ourselves. So we decided we would go see the Statue of Liberty and check on our summer home in the country. Now you would think we have seen the Statue of Liberty before, but we have only viewed her from Manhattan, we have yet to go over by boat. Unfortunately our car is still not finished, it has been nearly a week and I guess they are slacking off for Christmas. So out came the laptop and we rented a Chevrolet Aveo, and we even had them deliver it to the house.

The Aveo buzzes, and I mean it. The thing is so fun to drive, it weaves in and out of traffic like a bee. And this was great once we got over to Manhattan, because Christmas is coming. We went and saw some of the cool sites in the city, during Christmas time they have a bunch of different areas and buildings decked out in lights and decorations. Once we got to the dock, we paid our way onto the ferry and we were on the Island in no time.

Liberty Island was cool, and I really can’t describe the enormity of the Statue of Liberty, she’s huge! She must be twenty stories tall, and wow, just standing in her shadow was something. Sadly she has been closed up, one of the tour guides said since 9/11 but he wasn’t actually sure. We didn’t have to pay but we followed a tour, where we learned quite a bit about the Statue of Liberty. Most of it was common knowledge, like how the French gave the beautiful masterpiece we call the Statue of Liberty to us after the American Revolution, but there was also some fun facts that they pointed out. We ate lunch on Liberty Island, and then headed back to the mainland.

We really, really didn’t want to have to drive at night. Sadly the ferry doesn’t really have a specified time, it just fairies back and forth. So by the time we got off the island it was pretty much dark. Once we got out of Manhattan we headed back to Thrifty, and sadly left our Aveo there. Thrifty set up a taxi ride to get us home, and we were taken home without delay. Now we always here these bad stories about people renting cars, the strange thing is only once (our first time) did we have trouble. Really all you need to do is have all the information and your stuff there. We really enjoyed our time at the Statue of Liberty; it was a fun and affordable trip.
