Lone Star Park Race Track Texas
Now I think in the past I have expressed my passion for racing, however, my wife does not. And for this reason I only get the opportunity to watch the races on television, which really isn’t as enjoyable as hearing the roar of the engines and having that burnt tire smell in your nostrils. So while we were in the state of Texas and since the trip was kind of all about me I decided to look up local race tracks because the Daytona races are coming up and I wanted some sort of action. We had to go online and extend our car rental, this is the first time we have ever had to do this and it was easy. The Saturn Vue was still keeping up, two blogs later and we were kind of growing fond of the low purring engine. Anyhow I found the Lone Star Park Race Track, now this isn’t car racing, this is horse racing, something I have never experienced before. So I want to see some Jockey’s and I wanted to see some horses flying down a dirt track, and my wife agreed to allow me to see some of these races.
I had to make a pact with here that I wouldn’t place down any bets since I have had no experience with this kind of racing. However, while we were there I learned an abundance from the folks that sat next to us. Still, it wasn’t enough to convince my wife. Anyhow the races were pretty straight forward, fire a gun and race around the track one, three or five times.
The most interesting part about the races was watching the horse’s paces, because as the guy next to me explained the ones that start out fast will end slow. It’s just like running an actual race; if you push to hard you’ll get tired fast. The jockeys have to pay real attention to keeping the horse moving fast as well as keep him from getting warn out to quickly. While we were there we never got the exact distance of the track, in my opinion it doesn’t really matter, I mean all the horses are running the same distance.
Anyway it was fun; my wife got a lot of great pictures of horses flying through the air and huge plumes of dirt and dust flying behind them. If we ever go back to Texas this is a must, I really enjoyed it. There are so many attractions in Texas, probably because of its enormous size, either way getting the time to enjoy the whole thing seems like it would take years.
