Boniuk Library
The
Boniuk Library contains over 5,000 volumes of books about the
Holocaust, Jewish history, WWII, the post-Holocaust period and
numerous related topics of interest. The library contains a huge
amount of artifacts, photographs, film reels, and documents along
with over 250 recorded testimonies from Holocaust survivors,
liberators, witnesses and a member of the Hitler Youth. Many
permanent, as well as changing exhibitions are located here, with
one significant permanent display that is called: "Bearing Witness:
A Community remembers," which contains the testimony of Houston area
survivors. Just before entering the exhibit, visitors are encouraged
to get a better impression of Jewish culture and life in pre-war
Europe with authentic films, photographs, artifacts and documents
that highlight the Nazi propaganda machine and the way to the "Final
Solution". There are many such exhibits like this one, and more that
pertain to the permanent collection that showcases the horrid
conditions and lifestyles of these haunted people.
