Museums in Tulsa

The Creek Council House Museum is located in downtown and was originally built in 1878. It served as the capitol of the Muscogee, or Creek, Nation. This museum held their executive and judicial branches of government, after that the Creek civilization started up around it. The museum today holds artifacts and other collections that take you back to the history of the Creek people from Georgia and Alabama to Oklahoma. There are also many exhibits in the museum of native arts and crafts.

The Gilcrease Museum has a very extensive collection of art, artifacts, and manuscripts that hold pieces of the story of American history. This artwork ranges from paintings to sculptures to drawings. There are more than 10,000 pieces by more than 400 artists from all over the United States. As far as artifacts, there are more than 250,000 artifacts that show the life from the 19th century Indian tribes to the present. The museum also holds more than 90,000 manuscripts that include some signed by Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.

The Tulsa Zoo holds more than 400 species and about 1,500 animals, although the excitement never ends here at the Tulsa Zoo. The Woodward Park and the Municipal Rose Garden is known as a beautiful escape into a world of colorful floral explosions. Inside the park visitors will find many different gardens that each have their own uniqueness and beauty. Some of the gardens have tropical plants and cacti but others have spring flora's. Visitors can also find a retreat of azaleas, irises and roses. As far as the Municipal Rose Garden there is a special delight that has more than 9,000 roses with more than 250 varieties which have been blooming since 1935 very beautifully. 

The Harwelden Mansion was finished being built in the year 1926. It is a beautiful four-story, thirty-Harwelden in Tulsa, OKroom for the Harwell family. Inside the mansion are decorations that reflect the family's coat of arms. The outside decoration of the mansion feature Indiana limestone with limestone gargoyles and a gold fishpond. The University of Tulsa and the Tulsa Boys Home had a great deal of help and support from the Harwell family. As for today the Harwelden Mansion is used by the Arts and Humanities Council for special events. The Mansion can also be rented out for sophisticated private events and the public can visit during the normal business hours.
