Things to do in Aberdeen

  • Dacotah Prairie Museum
Back in 1941, a museum called the Northern South Dakota History Museum had to close down because the school it was at needed the space to train pilots. But don't worry, they didn't just throw everything away! Most of the cool stuff in the museum was put into storage or given back to the people who donated it. Fast forward to 1970, and the museum was finally able to find a new, permanent home! A building was offered to the county for the museum to use. At first, they could only fill up part of the first floor, so they called themselves the Dacotah Prairie Museum. But things started to change for the better! By 1980, all the other tenants in the building moved out, and the museum was able to take over the whole thing! And now, the museum has a huge collection of South Dakota's history, from art made by local and regional artists, to cool quilts, to stuffed animals (don't worry, they're not alive!), and lots of other interesting things that people used in the past. So, if you want to learn about the history of South Dakota, the Dacotah Prairie Museum is definitely the place to be!
