Akaka
Falls State Park - Discover some of the most
spectacular waterfalls in the world. This 440 foot high
falls is the main attraction in Akaka Falls State park.
You will also see Kahuna Falls while touring the 65
acres of rain forest. Have a picnic while you are there
or just take your time strolling along the paths
admiring the awesome views. Located only 20 miles north
of Hilo, the trip will take you through Big Island's old
sugar cane fields. The self guides hike is less than a
half mile long and includes tropical flowers, towering
bamboo and other beautiful plants. The Akaka Falls drop
into a pool of water below. Make sure you bring your
camera for the many photo opportunities you will have
while touring this park. Driving from Hilo you can also
stop and explore the Humakua four mile scenic drive.
