Aldridge Gardens
Is a beautiful thirty acre site showcasing breathtaking gardens & beautiful hydrangeas.  The previous owners Eddie and Kay Aldridge lived here at the estate located on the grounds.  Aldridge Gardens opened to the public in June 2002 and is one of very few botanical gardens that specialize in growing a variety of hydrangeas.  In fact, Eddie Aldridge is a  skilled nurseryman who specializes in hydrangeas and worked alongside his father Loren as  to whom these beautiful, botanical gardens are named.  With lots of hard work and research they discovered the Snowflake hydrangea and planted hundreds throughout Aldridge Gardens. The Snowflake hydrangea is their   trademark flower for Aldridge Gardens.  Eddie and his wife Kay lived and worked on the 30 acres for several years before they turned Aldridge Gardens over to the City of Hoover so visitors could see and appreciate the several wide varieties of hydrangea's found within Aldridge Gardens.  With many years of experience and serving the community of Hoover, Eddie Aldridge speaks to various groups about his favorite plant along with various other questions about plants weekly.  Eddie Aldridge has discovered and patented several varieties of hydrangeas.  In addition to the breathtaking gardens visitors will enjoy the many water features throughout the Aldridge Gardens providing various locations for peace and relaxation the Woodland Stream flows through the beautiful Shade Garden into the seven acre lake.  The Aldridge Garden House today is used for weddings and special occasions.  Aldridge Gardens is home to a wide variety of native & migrating birds creating a fantastic environment rich in trees, shrubs and spacious lawns to support many species of birds.   During the Spring of 2006 Aldridge Gardens placed nesting  boxes around the grounds in attempt to bring the Eastern Blue Birds population up due to loss of nesting places.  By the end of the nesting season Aldridge Gardens had 100% occupancy with Bluebirds, Brown-Headed Nuthatches, Chick-A-Dees and Cow Birds many were competing for the same nesting box.  With such success the Eastern Blue Bird numbers are rising, the probability of them returning is looking good and the favorite songbird  can be seen & heard at Aldridge Gardens.  There are several, small native  mammals that reside in Aldridge Gardens however, they are difficult to see during your daily stroll through the grounds.  Several of the animals are shy and active during the night.  A good location to check for wildlife are around large logs and stumps located in Urban Forest.   Aldridge Botanical Gardens hosts special events, educational programs and much more.  Aldridge Gardens is a fantastic place to spend the afternoon, so while you are exploring the city of Hoover be sure to visit Aldridge Gardens.

• Hoover High School
  Is named after the cities founder William Hoover, and is home to the Hoover Buccaneer football team who have gained public recognition.  The nationally known team the Bucs have claimed seven State of Alabama State Championships from 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.  This famous football team is well know for winning State Championships, big games broadcasting on ESPN and the MTV reality series Two-A-Days.  The Bucs play all of their home games at Regions Park Stadium this spacious sixty acre field is home of the Hoover High School Buccaneer Football team, the Birmingham Barons Double-A Minor League Baseball Team and the SEC Baseball Tournament.  Regions Park Stadium underwent extensive renovations in 2007 with a seating capacity of 10,000.   The Bucs are under the direction of  Head Coach Josh Niblett. • Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark
  Represents the industrial past of the South and our nation.  Sloss Furnaces produced iron for 90 years placing the city of Birmingham on the map.  Today the city of Birmingham recognizes Sloss Furnaces as a National Historic Landmark easily spotted  by it's web of pipes and tall smokestacks that represent its rich industrial past.  Sloss Furnaces became a National Historic Landmark in 1981 and later opened its gates in September 1983 as a unique museum of the city of Birmingham.  Here visitors will see a collection of two 400-ton blast furnaces along with forty plus historic buildings.  One of the oldest buildings dates back to 1902 and houses eight original steam driven blowing engines that were used to provide air for combustion in the large furnaces.  These engines themselves date back between 1900-1902.  Also stored in the building are boilers that were installed in 1906 and 1914  were used to produce steam for the site until it closed in 1970.  Sloss is currently the only twentieth-century blast furnace in the United States being preserved as a historic industrial site.  The plant's industrial structure, tools and machines make Sloss a unique museum.  Sloss Furnaces is a important reminder of struggles and hopes of the people who worked in the industry that made several men very wealthy and the City of Birmingham famous.  Visitors can take a self guided tour or schedule a guided group tour of Sloss Furnaces.
