Anne Frank House
The Anne Frank House on the Prinsengracht canal in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is the museum that is dedicated to the Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank, that would hide with her family from Nazi persecution and four others hid with them in the rooms that had been hidden in the back of the structure. Besides preserving the hiding places of the family, that is known in Dutch as the Achterhuis, there is a marvelous exhibition of the life and times of Anne and the entire museum has become an exhibition space to showcase all types of discrimination and persecution. The house, and the one that is adjacent to it, and eventually bought by the museum, was constructed by Dirk van Delft in 1635, while the canal side facades date to a rejuvenation that took place in 1739 when the back annex would be demolished and the higher one replaced it, had been a private residence, and later a warehouse, and in the 19th century, the warehouse in front would be used to house horses, because it has stable type doors. When the 20th century began, a manufacturer of household appliances would occupy the building, until 1930 when a producer of piano rolls would be located here until 1939, and then finally, in 1940, Anne's father, Otto Frank would move the offices of the spice and gelling companies that he was employed by, to Opekta and Pectacon, from a place on the Singel canal to the house they would hide in. The family and others would stay hidden in the building for the next two years and one month until they would be revealed to the Nazis by an anonymous caller. The family would be arrested and deported to various concentration camps where only Otto Frank would live through it. Fortunately, some of the people that had helped the family while hidden, returned, even though forbidden by the police, and retrieved what items and personal effects they could, and included the Diary of Anne Frank. Otto would edit the book and have it published in 1947. Many visitors began coming to the house, while some were fortunate enough to be shown around by employees that had hidden the families. The company had moved by 1955, and the complete block was to be demolished to make room for a new factory built on the land. A Dutch newspaper, Het Vrije Volk would start a campaign to save the structure Anne hid in and a crowd gathered to protest the demolition on the day it was supposed to occur. The Anne Frank Foundation was started by Otto Frank and Johannes Kleiman in 1957, to begin collecting monies to save the old structure, but in a gesture of goodwill, the company that owned it would donate it to the foundation. The funds that the foundation raised would be then used to purchase the building next to the one donated, and the remainder of the block demolished. It would be opened to the public in 1960.

Van Gogh Museum
The Van Gogh Museum is located in Amsterdam, Netherlands that showcases the magnificent works of the Dutch painter, Vincent van Gogh and many of his contemporaries; although it does house the world's biggest collection of his drawings and paintings. One of the most fascinating exhibits is now showing in the museum, that describes Pablo Picasso's artistic evolution when he went to Paris for seven years from 1900 to 1907. Other exhibition now showing include Nightlife in Montmartre, and includes works by van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Steinlen and Picasso; New Acquisitions: Works on Paper that contains many more works by van Gogh from the period 1840 through 1914 and Exterior Painting: Myth and reality with works by Charles-Francois Daubigny. The periods covered at the museum about van Gogh include those periods from 1853 to 1880, 1880 to 1885, 1886 to 1888 in Paris, 1888-1889 in Arles, 1889-1890 in Saint-Remy and 1890 in Auvers-sur-Oise. Fraeylemaborg is considered the most significant castle in the province of Groningen, Netherlands that would be started in the Middle Ages to house their harvests and to protect them from robbers and other types of criminals. It would be one of the few structures to use stone and masonry for its construction, besides the numerous churches in the region. As the years passed, these types of castles would become centers of power and wealth, and this one is located in the center of the town of Slochteren that would give its name to the biggest gasfield in the world when it would be discovered in 1959. During the 15th century, there was a farm that would be called Frealemaheerd, and in the archives of history, you can see the name of Remmer Fraeylema, as the original owner, and he would add the left wing in the 17th century. It would be sold by Evert Rengers in 1680 to pay his family's debts off and Henrik Piccardt would purchase it since he was already part of the family since he had married Anna Elizabeth Rengers. When Henrik passed on, the estate would fall into disrepair, until it was sold in 1781 to Henrik de Sandra Veldman, who restorated the castle into the condition it is now, taking away the two front towers. It sits on about 12 acres of land and has been a popular place ever since it became a museum. There are areas that can be toured as well as rented for special events and occasions, with a lovely garden area and museum shop filled with many types of interesting oddities and other good things that have been incorporated into the store. There are numerous exhibition areas around the museum shop, with a restaurant located in the treasure house now, and the marvelous grounds were designed by G. A. Blum and Redbeard in the English landscape style.
