  • Oregon Symphony
    Founded in 1896, it had its first concert in October of the year and it is one  the oldest symphonies in the West.   • Oregon Ballet Theatre
    Established in 1989, the Ballet Theatre was inaugurated as a professional ballet company.  It's continuing goal is to provide both quality performances, education and training as well as conduct regional and national tours. Developing a distinct repertoire and style, the dance company accumulated over 80 ballets and evening-length classics. Not only did the dance company become extremely successful but nearly 200 students where on the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre's roster under the direction of Damara Bennett. The School is now recognized as one of the preeminent ballet schools in the Country.

    Nearly 10 years ago the phrase Pearl District was coined by a gallery owner named Thomas Augustine. Looking to label the area with a catchy name, the name "Pearl District" was adopted due to an Alaskan Airlines writer who used it in his columns.
