Sierra Estrella Wilderness
This fabulous mountain range is southwest of Phoenix, Arizona, near Goodyear, with the majority of it lying within the Gila River Indian Reservation, with 14,400 acres protected by the Sierra Estrella Wilderness. Estrella Mountain Regional Park
This is the first regional park that would be part of the Maricopa County Park system, in 1954, and is filled with 19,840 acres of mountains and desert close to the confluence of the Gila and Agua Fria Rivers in the southwest valley that also has a huge wetland area. The park is mostly pristine desert, and is probably just as it was when the first European explorers and settlers arrived here, since the Sierra Estrella range or Star Mountains had been part of Mexico before being included in the Gadsden Purchase of 1853. The area holds many exciting adventures for the family, with great grassy picnic areas and fabulous views. There are more than 33 miles of trails here, great for mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, walking and photography, with the trails coming in various lengths, and difficulty, from easy walking to strenuous hiking, with the Pederson Trail traveling 8.7 miles and taking you almost the entire day. You can visit the park office for different maps, and the majority of the trails are marked for multi-use, unless otherwise posted. You are always reminded of bringing plenty of water, and always, make sure someone knows your location and even a schedule, as anything can happen in the wild. There is an RV park, with seven sites, and big parking area that can accommodate up to a 45 foot RV, and is developed with water, electricity, picnic table and barbeque fire pit. Since the Gila River runs through the park, there are many places to drop a line and enjoy the great fishing that includes native and non-native fish, but a valid fishing license is necessary to fish; and is only a catch and release programs stipulated by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. The park is home to the Tres Rios Golf course, a par 71 course that opened in 1962, and was designed by golfing course legend and architect, Red Lawrence, voted one of the top five most improved courses by Golf Digest in 2000.

The Arizona Museum of Natural History
The Arizona Museum of Natural History is considered the premiere natural history museum in the state, and had been known as the Mesa Southwest Museum. It was founded in 1977, in Mesa, Arizona, with a little collection of relics, in the old city hall, but would have to enlarge it in the years 1983 and 1987, to make room for the many magnificent artifacts, and by 2000, a new wing would have to be added as well. The museum has some 60,000 specimens of anthropology, natural history, art and history, with about 10,000 historical prints spread across its 74,000 square feet, along with a three story waterfall, a recreation of the Lost Dutchman's mine and a genuine territorial jail. They house a native peoples gallery that includes the Paleo-Indian big game hunters and gatherer's, the initial inhabitants of the North American continent, and the numerous desert cultures that would eventually develop in the southwest. There is an authentic Hohokam village with above ground structures and pithouses, including the artifacts that were found dating from 600 to 1450 AD. Another exhibit showcases the cultures of ancient Mexico, and in the origins gallery, visitors will travel through a timeline of the cosmos and discover the most significant events about the history of our planet. Their paleontology area is the main centerpiece of the museum, and it explores, researches, excavates, prepares and records the fossil resources that have been collected for the museum. They work with state, university and municipal agencies, and have become the official repository for any specimens collected in the state and its numerous agencies that might come across a new discovery. The dinosaur hall showcases an unnamed coelurosaur nicknamed, "the Zuni coelurosaur, as well as a t-rex skull, a tyrannosaurus bataar skeleton, a late surviving theropod called diatryma, with sauropods that include an apatosaurus femur and a camarasaurus skeleton. They have other skeletons and bones, but the names are scientific and no one could understand what they are. Just visit and enjoy the immense historical content and artifacts housed here.
