Devos Art Museum
The Devos opened in 2005 after the new museum building was completed and is part of the School of Art and Design at Northern Michigan University (NMU) and has become the regional art museum for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This fine art museum would blossom from the Lee Hall Gallery that was started in 1975 to serve the Art and Design Department of the university, that showed the works of students and faculty. As the role of the museum changed, and grew, it would include changing exhibitions of national artists and began to grow a permanent collection that houses over one thousand works today. Then they developed a docent program and an outdoor sculpture walk; eventually gaining art museum status in 1995, and would become called the University Art Museum. Then it would be endowed with a grant from the DeVos Foundation of Grand Rapids and is now able to concentrate on regional, national and international contemporary art. The collection contains regional modern and contemporary works, 20th century illustrations, Inuit art and relics, 20th century design, Native American art and relics and Japanese art and relics. Their current list of upcoming exhibitions include, the NMU School of Art and Design Senior Exhibition that is on April 29, 2011, the Annual Marquette County Children's Exhibition on May 13, 2011 and the North of the 45th Parallel during June and July.

Laughing Whitefish Falls Scenic Site
there are many folks that have come to visit these gorgeous falls and walked away thinking that they are the most beautiful falls in the state, as it cascades down a very magnificent gorge that is lined with old growth white pine and hemlocks that seem to reach up to heaven. These falls are one of the most popular in the state, but it does take a small hike of about 2.3 miles to get to them, with many vantage points to get excellent views and pictures. The falls are located in Onota and Rock River townships, in the far west area of Alger County, Michigan and is about eight miles south of Lake Superior. The Laughing Whitefish falls were formed by an abrupt limestone escarpment situated in the Laughing Whitefish River, and is shaped in such a unique way that the water seems to fan out into a long wall of water. There is a picnic area with hand water pump and three observation decks that look out over the falls and offer a very picturesque view for visitors to enjoy. Be forewarned though that the area where the falls are located is a wilderness area without homes, businesses or restaurants, so bring what you will need for the trip, walk and any other things you may want to do. The trail is gravel so you shouldn't have any problems walking to the falls, because the way is well marked and well traveled. At the entrance to the path, there is a tiny bathroom and sign about the falls and the river, which is quite interesting and helpful. Also found at the beginning of the park there are charcoal grills, but there aren't any trash cans so you will have to take care of your own trash, and there isn't any area for camping. All along the trail and river, you will have marvelous views of nature and may see some exciting wild critters running around if you are quiet. In the spring and fall, the area is really beautiful and will enhance your visit to the utmost.

Greenwood Reservoir
occupying more than one thousand acres in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan the Greenwood Reservoir is one of the prettiest and serene places in the region. The reservoir is about 10 miles southwest of Ishpeming, Michigan and has two hard bottom boat ramps, with 17 parking spots, public restrooms with pit toilets and camping is permitted on the site, with numerous small tent sites, but they have to be approached by boat. There aren't any sites for big groups or more than one or two tents, is offered on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to come early and pitch your tent if you plan on staying overnight. This is an impoundment that was made when a dam was built on the Escanaba River to offer support to the mines located in the area, with many inlets and coves secluded around the reservoir. If you've never been there, then you should become a bit more familiar with the lake and its various hazards, so if you plan on doing any boating, be sure to be careful and watch out for those hazards. Some of the hazards are shallow rocks and stumps that lie just below the water, with some being able to be seen, and others depending on the light and the area you are paddling or boating. The reservoir is a great place to drop a line or two, with the chances for a great fishing day depending on many factors, not of which are in your control, so you could get a haul or nothing. There are numerous warmwater game fish and they are all in good health and include; crappie, northern pike, pumpkinseed, walleye, bluegill, large and small mouth bass, with many outstanding areas that will allow you to catch what you want.
