Caladesi Island State Park
The Caladesi Island State Park
is located just north of Clearwater, Florida and right across from
St. Joseph Sound near Dunedin. It was part of a larger island before
the huge hurricane that came through here in 1921 and split it into
Caladesi and Honeymoon Islands. The waters that flow between these
two islands has aptly been named Hurricane Pass. It can be reached
by ferry or boat from the docks on Honeymoon Island, but is just a
short walk from Clearwater Beach which shares the island mass.
Interesting sights include the beach, park concessions, marina, 3
miles of nature trails, picnic pavilions and bathhouses. You can
swim, sunbath, fish, hike, study nature, look for shells, kayak and
go boating. In 2005, it was named the 4th best beach in the nation,
then in 2006 and 2007 it moved up to number two and by 2008, it had
become the best beach in the United States.
