Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum
The Colorado Springs Pioneers
Museum is located in the downtown area, in the 1903 El Paso County
courthouse and admission is free to the public. This wonderful
museum showcases the culture and history of the Pikes Peak region,
with displays that highlight the special character of the area, with
the museum's building being one of the most outstanding features of
the city. Every year, thousands of people come here to learn about
its history and influences in the region, sitting in one of the two
city parks with lush green lawns, outdoor sculptures, brilliant
colorful flowers and a marvelous granite fountain. Its permanent
displays tell of the history of the region and the rotating exhibits
talk about various interests to the citizenry. It has shown antique
quilts, space exploration, western art, and Plains and Pueblo Indian
culture. Cultural exhibits have included baseball memorabilia,
murals, juke boxes and motorcycles. The murals were done by local
artist Eric Bransby, and show the history of Pikes Peak and the
region from its earliest human settlements to the construction of
the Air Force Academy.
