Merriweather Post Pavilion If theater is your thing then Merriweather Post Pavilion is a must see in Columbia Maryland. Merriweather Post Pavilion an amphitheater that has been around for over forty years and was originally designed to house the National Symphony Orchestra. It’s 40 acres in the middle of a forest so the acoustics are unmatchable. Famous bands such as the Who, Jimi Hendrix, and the Grateful Dead have all played there and have added their own touches to the amphitheater. Ticket prices and times change with each concert but tickets can be purchased on the Merriweather Post Pavilion website where you can also find the concert times. The gates open 90 minutes prior to showtime. Their box office opens at 10am and closes an hour before show time, be sure to bring your cash they offer a small discount for cash purchases. Throughout the year they house everything from rock to country including blues, hip hop, alternative, electronica, and classic. Along with the shows they also have dining where you can get everything from a meatball sub to a crab cake sandwich. They also serve ice cream, fruit smoothies, or soft pretzels. But if a cold beer is what you’re looking for they have that too, domestic or imported beers along with assorted wines. If that isn’t enough they also sell their own merchandise so you can take home a souvenir that is also practical to be used while you’re at the concert like blanket to lay on the grass, a water bottle, or a tote bag. Earth Treks in Columbia Maryland is a must see wither you are an experienced rock climber or are looking to try something new on your vacation. They have everything from beginner climbing lessons to the largest indoor climbing wall in the country. With new routes set daily and 44 ft of climbing straight up alongside air conditioning what more could you possibly ask for. They are open seven days a week, Mondays 12pm - 10pm, Tuesday thru Thursdays 12pm- 10pm, Fridays 12pm- 10pm, Saturday 9am-8pm (November - March) 9am- 6pm (April - October) and Sundays from 9am – 6pm. Before climbing take part in a short lesson. Day passes are only $18 but if you plan on coming back frequently they also offer a seven visit pass and a thirty or ninety day pass. With a member’s pass, which is $65-70, they also offer free yoga on Mondays and Wednesdays and discounts on rentals. If you’re just looking to try it out no worries you don’t have to bring your own equipment they offer rentals. Climbing shoes are $5, harnesses $5, Belay Device with a locking carabineer are $2, Chalk bags are also $2, and a package that includes all of those things is $11. All climbers under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult of the age 18 or older at all times while in the climbing areas.
