Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer in Grand Island The Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer is a museum located in Grand Island, Nebraska, east of Lincoln. The museum is named after Leo Stuhr, a local politician, the state's first Secretary of Agriculture, whose ancestors were the pioneer settlers to the area. The Stuhr Museum gives visitors the glimpse of the lives and the legacies of the pioneers who settled on the plain of central Nebraska in late 1900s. The museum preserves and portrays the inspiring story of the pioneer town builders. The main museum building displays photos and artifacts that follow the history of pioneers and early settlers. The museum also features a living history village called Railroad Town. It was designed to bring back the memories of 1890s-era prairie village to life. Railroad Town was recreated out of many structures form the 1890s-era that tells the story of town building and community development of that era. Among the structures is the house where actor Henry Fonda was born in 1905. As you walk through the town, you will get the chance to meet the townspeople and hear their stories, their hopes and their dreams. Several Hollywood movies and TV series were also filmed at the museum, such as Adventures of the Old West (1995), Sarah, Plain and Tall (1991) and My Antonia (1995). Right around the parking lot there is a display of railroad that includes the 1901 Union Pacific engine 437, an 1871 passenger car and a 1912 Union Pacific caboose.
