Ever been traveling through a small town and wonder if there is a good place to stop and have a great craft beer selection. Well in the small town of Hamden Connecticut there is a great place to stop. Mikro Beer Bar is a fantastic bistro that has 18 craft beers on tap and an enormous selection of bottled beers stuffed into the beer cooler. Mikro is owned and operatered by Mike Farber who is a 30 year veteran of the food industry, he has owned several other restaurants that you might want to check out including Prime 16 and Monster Grille which are in the center of Hamden. The name Mikro beer bar is not named after Mike himself but after the micro beer that he serves, it is pronounced micro. The “K” was a special touch that mike added to set his bar apart from all the other micro brews and for making his bar more internet “search friendly.” Mike serves up a full menu at Mikro Bar and spears no expense in the making of his food. He offers a selection of snakes to enjoy while sipping away at your favorite brew or even small and large plates of food. There is something at Mikros for any appetite. The beers that mikro has on tap varies from the dark Blue Point Oatmeal stout to a bright light beer like the Ithaca Partly Sunny Wit.

Hamden is a great town to drink, the area is filled with great bars and restaurants. Above we talked about Mikro Beer Bar and if beer isn’t your cup of tea then be sure to check out Mickey’s Restaurant. Mikey’s isn’t owned by the same Mike who owns MiKro but it is a popular name for the area. Mickey’s is owned by Mickey Josephs. Mickey has been in the culinary industry for well over 16 years. Mickey’s was owned in 2006 with a great rich inviting atmosphere that serves fresh and delicious food in a timely manor. Mickey’s has been a great landmark in the area reciving numerous awards and mentions in local and state magazines. Some of these press mentions is being the Hamden Restaurant of the week from restaurantsct.com in 2010, a mention in the Connecticut Magazine in 2007, Mickey’s Restaurant was even in the New York Times in May of 2009. The selection of food at Mickey’s is just as impressive as the mentions in top magazines around the US. Some of the most popular dishes they serve are the appetizers with hits like the Fried Oysters, Crab Cakes, and even their delicious Raw Beef Carpaccio. The Beef is served raw because it is smashed thin. The beef starts off as a Filet Mignon and ends being a delicious, tasty thin piece of meat with Arugula, and shaved Reggiano.
