Things to do in Heapstead

Heapstead Lake State Park New York Is a beautiful State that’s all there really is to it. If you like urban settings then obviously New York city is the place for you but one think a lot of people don’t understand is that there is more to the State of New York then what most people know. I for sure didn’t think new York was a good place for hunting and fishing until a buddy of mine invited me on a camping trip. I was very surprised to find there was good fishing. I’m talking about fish the size of your fore arm that you can take home and cook for dinner good. One of the places that we went to was actually right in Heapstead it was a lake and form what I remember is was Heapstead Lake State Park. It was a great place for fishing because the State stocks it with Trout. I have never fished at a park like that and I don’t think I ever do again. The fish were jumping right out of the lake at us. Since they stock the lake you can fish trout all year long but there are other fish that you can keep at other times of the year. You might find some large mouth bass, chain pickerel, black crappie, or ever a perch or sunfish. There are 3 ponds and the main lake at the park and if you have a car top boat and a permit you can fish right off your boat.

What to eat in Heapstead

Donnigan's Pub 7 A pub should be a pub nothing else. There is something that is scared about a pub that just can’t be changed. It might be the good old comfort food or maybe the ever classic buffalo wings. It could be the friendly service or even the cold beer. We may never know what makes a pub a pub but there are things that you can always find. That’s while when traveling ill prefer a classic Irish pub to a new age bistro most times. After spending time on the lake we put our fish on ice and were two tired to cook them tonight so we hit up Donnigan’s Pub. A local fisherman at the like suggested it and it was just what we were looking for. The pub you could say was just a pub but as I said above pubs are good. The staff was just as it should be and was attentive but not overly in your face. They wanted to help you and make sure everything was perfect without hovering over your heads the whole time. I got a ice cold pint of Guinness and as a side a plate of shepherd’s pie. It was more than enough to fill me up and I ate every last bite of it. To top off the meal it all the meals came with a piece of warm garlic bread that tasted as if it just came out of the oven and was made just for me.
