Frick Collection
The Frick Collection is actually
an art museum located in Manhattan, New York City and held in the
former house of steel magnate, Henry Clay Frick, designed by Thomas
Hastings and built in 1913 and 1914. The building was constructed
when the majority of buildings on Fifth Avenue, beyond 59th Street,
were mansions, with a couple of private clubs and hotel. Set within
this rich haven, Frick's house was one of the most elaborate, with
private gardens on the avenue frontage and interior courtyard. It is
such a magnificent structure, that going to just see that building
is well worth the visit, with the collection being the icing on the
cake. It has become one of the most prominent small art museum in
the nation, with many exceptional old master paintings and beautiful
furniture, that are showcased in 16 galleries in the former mansion.
