Crocker Art Museum
The Crocker Art Museum is
located in Sacramento, California and has been open longer than any
other art museum that lies west of the Mississippi River. It started
in 1885, and contains a marvelous collection of early California
artworks that include; Thomas Hill, Albert Bierstadt, William Keith
and Xavier Martinez; plus many old masters like Francois Boucher,
Rembrandt and Durer. The nucleus of the collection was obtained by
Judge E. B. Crocker, brother of the railroad tycoon Charles Crocker,
who donated his collection that has continued to grow into a
magnificent 14,000 items. The museum is the best art museum in the
capitol district and California Central Valley.
