The Alaska Museum of Natural History is the only museum that is dedicated to the prehistoric history of Alaska including fossils and remains of prehistoric animals and people, dinosaur bones, and even tools, weapons, and other artifacts from the nomadic civilizations which graced the lands of the future with such amazing discoveries. The museum was started in 1989 as a collaborative effort by two University of Alaska, Anchorage professors to be the first facility to display the collections of amazing artifacts, fossils, and other findings from this area of the world. Today, the museum has moved from its original location in Eagle River to the Anchorage location which boasts a 12,000 square foot facility with future plans of adding a classroom, a collections area, and a small theater to intensify the educational and interactive capabilities of the museum and its amazing artifacts. The museum offers collections of artifacts, skulls, rocks, and minerals from several independent contributors which have done a great deal of work in collecting these items for future generations to observe and enjoy.
