The Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale is a great place to come with the art lovers in your group. This excellent center for the display of all types of artwork boasts 21,000 square feet of exhibition space and uses all of it quite well. The museum was founded in the 1950’s but was not fully finished until 1986. In 2003 the museum began operating a school dealing in the instruction of artistic medium application including drawing, painting, sculpting, design, as well as other disciplines. The school is broken into groups based on grade level. There is a group for adults, one for students ranging from grades 9 to 12, and one for grades 1 to 8. This museum has become one of South Florida’s main cultural attractions and is well known for its display of over 6,000 works from national and international artists and focuses on contemporary art. With over one million guests, this institution is a major player in the art world of Florida. With new guests coming from all over every year, there is no denying the popularity and relevance of MOAFL. The museum’s 21,000 square feet is situated on two floors and also includes a 256 seat auditorium well equipped for lectures and special guest speakers and artists. Some of the exhibitions featured at MOAFL include Tom Wesselmann drawings, a collection of Latin American art from Pearl and Stanley Goodman, Constructed Reliefs from the Maurice and Sarah Lipschultz Collection, a collection by Edouard Duval-Carrié in commemoration of Haitian independence, and a collection of sculptures by Pablo Picasso and paintings by Carlos Luna. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is an amazing venue which offers South Florida an amazing place to see performance art. The origins of this fine performing arts center began with Fort Lauderdale’s War Memorial Auditorium and the Parker Playhouse which were built in the 1940’s and 1950’s respectively. These venues served their purpose in their time, but with the growing need for more advanced features and a growing performing arts culture there needed to be a venue available which met the community’s needs. Compared to the older venues, which have not gone away but have become affiliates of the new center, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts has many more seats ready to accommodate the public, larger backstage and meeting areas, and more than one stage for a variety of performance needs. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is also a part of the Points of Culture and Points of Culture Abroad which serves as a catalyst in the broadening of Brazilian culture around the world. This affiliation with the Points of Culture allows the center to have a great connection with performing arts companies which perform amazing dance shows, music related performances, and more in the Brazilian fashion. The upstairs dining rooms are a great place for amazing panoramic views of the marina. Fresh caught seafood is readily available in the menu as well as other favorites like filet mignon, prime rib, and even pork short ribs as well as pasta dishes and other entrees as well as an amazing selection of appetizers, soups, salads, and an extensive wine list that will bring together any one of the meals selected. The menu for the Dockside Café offers an even more eclectic selection of starters, sandwiches, and entrees as well as tons of wines, beers, and specialty drinks that make the café POP with good times and even greater eats and treats. Situated in the marina, there is an area lit up like a giant aquarium where Giant Tarpon swim freely. There is a shop located at 15th Street Fisheries that sells shrimp which can be fed to the tarpon in the marina.
