Buffalo is the second largest city in New York State. Buffalo is right at the head of Niagara River on the western side of New York. It was first founded around 1789 as just a small community. As years went on the city became the 8th largest city in the United States. It was also the largest grain milling center in the country.  Buffalo is home to one of the world's largest family owned food manufacturers called Rich Products. It is also known as the heart of the Canadian-American corridor.  Some nicknames of Buffalo are "The Queen City" due to in the 1840's Buffalo was the second largest city in New York and "The City of No Illusions" due to a t-shirt that was designed by a local artist named Michael Morgulis. It also had the names The Nickel City due to the Indian Head nickel. Buffalo is also where Buffalo Wings migrated from.

Buffalo's Parks and Gardens

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens began in 1868. The garden is a tri-domed glass,Buffalo Botanical Gardens wood and steel structure and it was designed by the premier conservatory designers Lord & Burnham. The conservatory part of the garden has a showcase of tropical plant species while the rest has feature hardy species such as an arboretum, pinetum, shrub garden, and a bog garden. In the year 1901, the gardens had over a thousand visitors.

The Riverside Park in BuffaloThe Riverside Park is a not-for-profit organization and in the year 2004 it became the first park to be managed as a not-for-profit organization. This organization was made by The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy and it includes 6 major parks, 8 connecting parkways, 9 circles and 7 smaller spaces. This park was originally suppose to be modeled after Central Park but in a 10-50 acre zone. They want to keep this parks activities "mission-focused" and "community based."

The Niagara Falls State Park is the oldest state park in the United States. It was first discovered inThe Niagara Falls New York State Park 1885 but was called the Niagara Reservation. It is said that 3,160 tons of water flows over the falls every second. That is calculated as 75,750 gallons of water per second.  This park is one of the most fascinating experience anyone will have when visiting. There is about 140 acres out of over 400 acres of the park that is underwater.

 

Things To Do In Buffalo

The Niagara Falls Aquarium has more than 1,500 aquatic animals on display. This aquariums animals represent ecosystems coming from the Great Lakes to coral reefs. They also have sea lion and penguin shows every 90 minutes. They also do shark feeds on a regular basis for people to watch and enjoy. The aquarium also has piranha, seal and eel exhibits. This aquarium is linked with ECO-CELL which is a nationwide project that recycles cell phones. They say it is about  130 million cell phones will go out of use in one year which will create 65,000 ton of garbage. This is something they are trying to stop from happening to benefit the animals.

Old Fort Niagara in BuffaloOld Fort Niagara is not far from Niagara Falls and sits above Lake Ontario. It is a National Historic Landmark and brings over 100,000 visitors every year. This will show you a very unique collection of original military architecture from the 18th and 19th century. It also has living history events and programs, historical exhibits, and education. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions. This historic attraction is almost entirely self-funding.

Artpark & Company started in 1997 when they signed a three year licensing agreement with theArtpark in Buffalo state of New York.  The licensing agreement has now been extended until the year 2017. Their mission is to produce and present excellence in performance and visual arts. They want to create a unique and natural setting.  The Artpark has many events and outdoor concerts they hold as well. They even have an Art Camp and Theater Camp coming to the park soon. 

Buffalo Attractions

The Buffalo Zoo was started in 1870 when a prominent furrier named Jacob E. Bergtold showed the city a pair of deer.  These deer were kept in Delaware Park on a small piece of land. As the years past by a few more animals were added and after five years they decided to open their first permanent building. Fifteen years later they added a flock of sheep, a pair of bison and eight elk. If you would like something with more adventure, there is the Buffalo Harbor Cruises. These cruises will give you and your family an experience like never before. It will teach you history about  water trafficking economy as well as passing several important landmarks such as Old Fort Eire and Black Rock Lock. They also hold special events upon this cruise such as anniversaries or birthday parties. Buffalo is a very historic place and has many historical sites and museums such as the Roycroft Museum and the St. Paul Episcopal Cathedral.
