Due to the oil prices rising, the economy is now booming in Calgary. Over three million people visit the city annually to see the many festivals and attractions. Calgary is known as a very modern cosmopolitan city but still has its tradition culture.

Calgary Stampede

The Calgary Stampede is known as the greatest outdoor show on earth. It is a large festival, exhibition, and rodeo. It starts in mid July and goes on for at least ten days. It first started in the year 1912 by Guy Weadick. This is one of the largest outdoor rodeo's setting a record of 1,262,518 visitors within a ten day period. The Calgary Stampede also has a parade which is held on the opening day of the Calgary Stampede. The parade usually gets about 350,000 people attending and it is one of the largest and oldest traditions Calgary has. It is televised and the viewing audience is over 2 million people. This event is not only flooded with locals but a lot of tourists as well.  This rodeo brings cowboys from all over the continent.

Calgary Festivals

Calgary has many many festivals that run throughout the year. One of them is called The International Festival of Animated Objects. This festival is based on puppetry and masks and is a very entertaining comedy. Calgary also has a wine festival which has been a yearly tradition for 16 years now. This festival has international wines, ports, champagne, and dessert wines from the worlds most celebrated regions. You can also visit the Chestermere Winter Festival which is free and its a family event. At this festival they have wagon rides and turkey bowling for the kids and booths full of artisans and craftsman for the adults. Calgary also holds a film festival called the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival. This festival is to bring people from all over the world in hopes of spreading the awareness of understanding injustice.

Calgary Museums

The Military Museum is a bundle of different things from the Canadian Forces. This museum has plenty of events that go on annually such as a silent auction and a brunch. The mission statement is " Our purpose- acquire, restore, maintain, and protect fire apparatus, pictures, equipment, and memorabilia of the Fire Services' past." The most valuable and the pride of their collection is the 1929 Magirus which is one of the Calgary Fire Department's original apparatus. This museum is very memorable and touching.

This museum has guided and unguided tours and is open from 10am to 5pm.
