Ft. Lauderdale is known as the "Venice of America" because of its expansive and intricate canal system.  Ft. Lauderdale has many beaches to relax on and enjoy the sand and the sun. Ft. Lauderdale Museums

The Bonnet House Museum and Gardens was first organized in 1895 by Hugh Taylor Birch whoThe Bonnet House Museum & Gardens in Ft. Lauderdale was an early settler. In 1983 the house was donated to the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation. At that time it was the largest donation in Florida history.  The house is filled with Fredric Clay Bartlett's artwork such as paintings and murals. In the main house there is a collection of art and the personal treasures of the Birch/Bartlett families. Around the surrounding parts of the house provide habitat for many different species such as fish, monkeys and other wildlife.

The Antique Car Museum in Ft. LauderdaleFt. Lauderdale also has an Antique Car Museum, it is known as the vision of collector Arthur Stone. Arthur wanted to try and preserve a museum with a collection of one model for each year of the  company's existence which was 1900-1958. The featured cars are the 1939 Cyl Victoria Convertible #15 of 20 built as well as the 1909 Packard Speedster 60th Oldest Packard.  Arthur and his wife Shirley started collecting the cars for the museum in the mid- 1940's.

 

Things To Do In Ft. Lauderdale

In Ft. Lauderdale there are so many things fun things to do while on vacation. Aside from the beaches and museums there is the Riverwalk. Riverwalk is known as "Florida's Most Beautiful Mile." This historic downtown area is a very popular attraction. It has many dining, shopping and cultural venues.  You can also visit the Sawgrass Recreation Park which will give you a fun way to learn about the Everglades. Here you can take a guided airboat tour. After the airboat tour is the alligator and reptile exhibit. After that is where you learn about the Seminole Indians where they teach about their villages and explain tribal customs and history. There is also he Stranahan House which is the oldest building in Broward County as well as the most popular. The house was built in 1901 by Frank Stranahan and is a classic example of "Florida Frontier" architecture.

In the heart of Ft. Lauderdale you will find Olas Boulevard. This is a fancy downtown shopping area. This area includes fine boutiques, brick walkways, narrow alleyways, and a dozen restaurants and shops. The whole area is lit up with tiny white lights in the windows and around the rims of the buildings. You can also take a cruise on the Jungle Queen Riverboat. This boat will take you past famous and infamous estates. You can take either a three hour tour or a four hour dinning voyage. The four hour dinning voyage will take you to an island where you will enjoy your dinner in the midst of the tropics.  If you want more of an adventure then you can check out the Winterfest Boat Parade. Its an event where boats of all different sizes compete for awards. This race will start at Port Everglades and go north along the Intracoastal. Ft. Lauderdale also has the Tree Top Park which is a 358 acre park. In this park you can wander through the woods and around a 1,000 foot boardwalk. You can also rent canoes and paddleboats or go fishing at the park's Pine Island Ridge section.
