Seattle was known as the "Queen City" from 1869 until 1982. The current nickname for Seattle is the "Emerald City" which was the result of a contest that was held in the early 1980's and is also due to the evergreen trees in the area. Seattle is also known by the "Gateway to Alaska," "Rain City," and "Jet City." One of Seattle's major landmark is the Space Needle which is known as a place for learning and adventure. some of Seattle's other icons are the original starbucks, the Fremont Troll. Bill Gates House, the Hammering Man, and Hat N' Boots.  Seattle also has some famous graves such as Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Lee and his son Brandon Lee.

Woodland Park was originated in 1889. It has a bandstand and pathways through the woods toWoodland Park in Seattle Green Lake where you will find a bathing beach and a boathouse. It also includes picnic grounds, and two ball fields. This park also has trolley lines going through and around the whole park.  Now the park is mostly known for the Woodland Park Zoo and the Rose Garden. The zoo is known as one of the best zoo's in the world. The Rose Garden is only one of two dozen test gardens that is certified.

The Olympic Sculpture Park in SeattleThe Olympic Sculpture Park first opened on January 20, 2007. It includes a nine acre outdoor sculpture museum and beach. Some pieces that are displayed are "Wake" which is a structure made of steel that are mirror images. Then there is the Bunyon's Chess which is made out of wood and steel. There is also the father and son which is a fountain with a father and son reaching for each other. Most of the sculptures are made of steel and made in the 1960's.

The Green Lake Park is one of Seattle's most popular parks. It has an abundance of water andGreen Lake Park in Seattle green space surrounded by an urban neighborhood and attracts people from all over the city daily. Not only does the park serve as a public place for people to enjoy but also as a preserve for hundreds of species of trees, plants, and birds. There is also a 2.8 mile path that goes around the lake for bikers, runners, skaters, and much more. Others go to the park for boating, picnics, and swimming.

The Frye Art Museum in SeattleThe Frye Art Museum is located on Seattle's First Hill. It first was opened in the year 1952 and was called the legacy of Charles and Emma Frye. Ever since 1952 there have been 232 paintings on display from the Frye Founding Collection. This museum also holds events such as notable exhibitions of works to recognize artists from all over the world and emerge them together.  One of their guiding principles are "We believe art is crucial, important, and transformative."

 

The Flight Museum was first discovered in 1975 by a small group of aviation enthusiast. TheyThe Flight Museum in Seattle realized that artifacts that represent the evolution of flight were being lost or destroyed. So they decided to open the museum to preserve and present the artifacts. The exhibits however were first put on display in the year 1965. The museums statement of purpose is "To acquire and conserve a valuable collection of artifacts relating to air and space history and technology."

 

Seattle Attractions

Seattle has many attractions to visit and enjoy. One popular place is the Alki Beach. This beach was thought of over 150 years ago by a white settler named Arthur Denny. At this beach you have a great view of the city, the Space Needle, and Mount Ranier.  Then there is downtown Seattle which has many boutiques and renowned retail stores. It is the most popular place to shop while in Seattle. There is also the Experience Music Project which is a museum but it stands out from all other museums. Most people don't consider this a museum at all. This museum is dedicated to Jimi Hendrix. It is known as a temple to guitar gods and gospel choir alike. The Pioneer Square is also a very popular place to visit. This was Seattle's very first neighborhood. Now artist have moved in and turned it into a historic neighborhood for tourists to enjoy and learn from.
