Toronto is the largest city in Canada and its also the capital of
Ontario. The name Toronto came from the Iroquois word tkaronto which
means "place where trees stand in water." Toronto is mostly
mad of high rise buildings. There are over 2,000 buildings that are
over 90 meters in height. Most of the buildings are residential
which are either rentals or condominiums. Most of the buildings have
undergone renovations within the last five years. Toronto has over 4
million tourists a year ranking them number 14 in the world.
As for sports, Toronto is home to the Toronto Maple Leafs which is a
hockey team in the National Hockey League. It is also home to the
Hockey Hall of Fame which began in 1958.

Toronto Museums
The
Royal Ontario Museum also known as the ROM, is a very important and
major museum for
world culture and natural history of the city Toronto. This museum
is the fifth largest museum in North America. It holds over 6
million objects and has more than 40 galleries. Not only is it the
fifth largest in North America but the largest museum in Canada.
Some of the collections include dinosaurs, Eastern and African art,
East Asian art, European history, and Canadian History. This museum
also holds many traveling exhibits.
The
Gardiner Museum is strictly all about ceramic art. It is the only
museum in Canada that is strictly devoted to that type of art. This
museum was first organized in the year 1984 by George R. Gardiner
and his wife Helen Gardiner. This museum was known as a "jewel box
of ceramic treasures". The permanent collection is over 2,900
pieces of art which includes the Ancient Americas, Italian
Renaissance, English Delftware, Chinese and Japanese porcelain,
European porcelain, and a contemporary gallery.
The
Bata Shoe Museum is located in downtown Toronto. This museum
collects, researches, preserves, exhibits, and interprets all kind
of footwear from all around the world. The museum offers
four exhibitions and lectures. performances, and family events. The
collections in this museum is over 12,500 shoes and objects related
to shoes. Some of the exhibitions have included "The Perfect
Pair: Wedding Shoe Stories", "Paths Across the Plains: North
American Footwear of the Great Plains", "Icons of Elegance:
Influential Shoe Designers of the 20th Century", "Watched by Heaven,
Tied to Earth: Summoning Animal Protection for Chinese Children",
and "The Charm of Rococo: Femininity and Footwear of the 18th
Century".

Things To Do In Toronto
The Toronto Zoo is located in the north eastern part of Toronto. It
first opened in 1974 and was first
called the Metropolitan Toronto Zoo. This zoo is owned by the city
of Toronto and is open everyday except for Christmas day. This zoo
is the third largest zoo in the world. The zoo is divided into six
different sections including Indo-Malaya, Africa, the Americas,
Australasia, Eurasia, and the Canadian Domain. There are animals
indoors and outdoors and they have the viewing at many levels so
everyone can see. This zoo also has a children's zoo, Waterside
Theatre and a Splash Island. It holds over 16,000 animals and
represents over 491 distinct animals.
The
Toronto International Film Festival is a public event that is help
in September every year. It begins the Thursday after Labor Day and
goes on for ten days. There are 300-400 films screened with about 23
screens in downtown. There are usually 300,000 visitors to this
event every year. It was first discovered in 1976and is now one of
the most popular film festivals in the world. The festival is
located in Yorkville, Toronto which is an upscale neighborhood in
the downtown area. Most of the films are mainstream Hollywood films
but it still has its independent roots as well.

Toronto Parks and Gardens
Allan Gardens is an indoor botanical garden and a park. Most
of the property and the garden was
donated by George William Allan. He is a one-time Mayor of Toronto
and a Senator. The park is one of Toronto's oldest parks which
was built in 1858. In the middle of the park there is a
Victorian conservatory called the Palm House which was built in
1909. Inside the garden you will find rare tropical plants from all
over the globe. The admission to this park and garden are free. The
trees in the park stand for the northern tip of the Carolinian
forest. It was also includes species like black cherry, American
beech, red oak, sugar maple and sassafras.
The
Trinity Bellwoods Park is in downtown Toronto on the west side. This
park was built on top of the original Garrison Creek ravine which is
now a buried city storm sewer but it still flows underneath the park
from the northwest to the southeast corners. This park includes an
indoor pool and fitness center, lighted open air summer tennis
courts for the summer and an outdoor ice skating rink for the
winter. In the main area of the park there is space for soccer,
football and rugby. It also has three softball fields on the east
side.
Centennial Park is a very large park on the west part of Toronto. It
includes many things to do such
as the Etobicoke Olympium which is a large athletic center built in
1975. It also includes a snow center which has a small alpine skiing
hill with a t-bar and a conveyor lift. Then it has the
Centennial Park Stadium which is a 3,500 seat stadium that is used
for soccer. It has a go-cart track, golf course, botanical gardens,
picnic areas, baseball diamonds, and much more!
