McMichael Canadian Art Collection
The McMichael Canadian Art
Collection gives visitors a special and completely Canadian
perspective, from the art inside its austere walls, to the landscape
that encompasses it. It is the best gallery in the region that will
introduce you to its art, culture, history and people. The gallery
is quite well known for its dedication to collecting and showing the
best of Canadian artworks, with a permanent collection of 6000
artworks created by the Group of Seven, their contemporaries, First
Nations, Tom Thomson, Inuit and other artists that have contributed
to the country's artistic heritage. Every year, about 120,000
visitors come here to peruse the walls and halls of this fabulous
gallery, that is absolutely 100% Canadian. In fact, it is the sole
major art gallery in the world that is like this, offering visitors
the marvelous chance to enjoy landscape paintings in the wood
settings that inspired them in the first place. Constructed of
fieldstone and hand-hewn logs, the McMichael contains 13 exhibition
galleries and sits on 100 pristine acres of conservation land with
floor to ceiling windows that allow its visitors to enjoy the
spectacular views of the thickly wooded Humber River Valley.
