Hale-Brynes House
This historic house is located in New Castle, Delaware, constructed in 1750, by Samuel Hale, who later sold it to Daniel Byrnes in 1754. The house would become famous after the Battle of Cooch's Bridge, in the only battle that happened in the state. Once that skirmish was finished, General George Washington and his staff would hold a council meeting in the house in September, 1777. It would be added to the list of National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The house has a service wing that would be added in 1773, just before it was sold, and the meeting that took place here would be five days before the Battle of the Brandywine and must have included plans specifically made for that battle. The estate has become part of the nine state Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail, and is the southern anchor site of the federally designated Wild and Scenic White Clay Creek. It was also the first house in the state to get a State Heritage Plaque. The house has a long and marvelous history, with various owners and their families coming here to live in the outstanding example of Georgian brick architecture. The estate just happened to lie at the intersection of two significant roads, and throughout the revolution, the Quaker pacifist family would be on the military baggage train route that led from New York to Philadelphia to Baltimore and Yorktown, thus putting them right in the midst of the two encampments, filled with British and Americans. The gift shop located there sells outstanding memorabilia from the house, as well as commemorative items like a traditional 5 inch pottery jar, hand painted Christmas ornaments and booklets about the history of the house and its families.

Dutch House
Across the green in New Castle, Delaware, the Dutch house dates back to the early days of the new port city, in the late 17th century, when the port had become quite busy with the arrival of Swedish, Finnish, Dutch and English settlers and traders coming to the new world to find adventure, treasure and land. The house is reflective of that early period, when the city was filled with seafarers, and the hutch table located inside is set with sparkling early pewter dishes, a kas or unique cupboard, 1714 Bible, spoon rack and other outstanding and memorable Dutch colonial relics that showcase the traditions and lifestyle of early America. The early 20th century preservationist, Louise du Pont Crowninshield would collect these magnificent artifacts and preserve them for posterity. Exhibits will help visitors learn more about the early history of settling in the state and city, when the house had been a rare example of a beamed ceiling, frame house. Just this year, the Dutch House garden has gone through some exciting changes and upgrades that is sure to bring in more visitors in 2012. The house is filled with American and European decorative arts that showcase its excellent heritage, with Delft ceramics displayed throughout, since Crowninshield would acquire the majority of antiquities during the 1930s, when everything would be selling off cheap because of the terrible depression. The rooms are furnished with colonial revival relics and other memorabilia. The house also has a couple of stories to tell; one of the early Dutch period in the settlement's history and how early collectors and preservationists would interpret early colonial life.

Fort Delaware, Pea Patch Island
Fort Delaware is a harbor defense fortification on Pea Patch Island, in the Delaware River, off the coast of Delaware City, Delaware, constructed in the early 19th century by Chief engineer, Joseph Gardner Swift. In the Civil War, the Union would use the fort to house confederate prisoners, federal convicts and political prisoners. By 1900, it would become part of a three point concept that worked with Fort DuPont in Delaware City and Fort Mott in Pennsville, New Jersey. It is now a living history museum in the Fort Delaware State Park. Originally, the island had been a private hunting ground for Dr. Henry Gale, a New Jersey resident, who refused to sell the island to the US military for $30,000 so the state legislature seized it from him in 1813. A star fort would be constructed there, and many famous men would be stationed there, including, Captain George B. McCellan, Private Alexander J. Hamilton, Lt. General Joseph Wheeler, Colonel Francis Lubbock, and Private Bailey Peyton Key, the youngest pow from the south, who was just fourteen years old when he was captured. The state would acquire the island and fort in 1947, after the government declared it a surplus sale, and today, the park, includes all of the island, with transportation there and back offered by ferry. It does have a most interesting amount of ghost stories, and has been visited by teams of paranormal activity, with special investigation visits by the Ghost Hunters, as well as Britain's Most Haunted series doing an investigation of its own.

Hagley Museum & Library
The Hag is located in Wilmington, Delaware as a nonprofit educational institution that collects, preserves and interprets the history of American enterprise, with a magnificent library that contains a major research collection of photographs, pamphlets, manuscripts and archives and books that document the history of American business and technology. The library and archival collections have been opened to the public for research with an online catalog. The outstanding museum displays history from the earliest years of the du Pont family and corporation in the Brandywine Valley, with the original du Pont mills, gardens and estate. It opened in 1957, and spreads out across 235 acres along the shores of the Brandywine Creek, with excellent exhibits and demonstrations that depict the links between early industrial technology and early American history, as well as the personal stories of the people that worked for the company in the 19th century and how they lived, and how their lifestyles would change during the century in tune with new production methods and machinery in their workplace. The French immigrant, Eleuthere Irenee du Pont, would decide to construct his black powder mills along the shores of the Brandywine Creek because it had natural energy from the water, woods and willow trees to make the best charcoal that would be needed for the best black powder, and the close proximity of the Delaware River that offered shipping for goods and supplies coming in and the finished products being shipped out. Granite quarries were located close by as well that would be used for the materials to construct the mills, and as time passed by, it would become the biggest black powder manufactory in the world. Then, in 1921, the mills would close and parts of the property sold off, and by the time the company's 150th anniversary arrived in 1952, it had begun plans for a museum. This would be the place where the famous wealthy family would get its start, and is located at the midpoint of the DuPont Historic Corridor.
