• Mark Twain House

• Connecticut River Museum  
  This is another fantastic place to visit when you are in Hartford, Connecticut.   The Connecticut River Museum is located along the waterfront in the historic Essex Village.  The Connecticut River Museum offers visitors adventure, historic information and several interesting exhibits.  Visitors of all ages will learn the story of the great Connecticut River along with it's people through various educational programs, exhibits and river excursions.   Another highlight of the Connecticut River Museum is a full scale model of the American Turtle which was the world's first submarine dating from 1776.  Visitors of all ages will enjoy exploring the American Turtle here you can experience pressing on pedals, crank on several different handles and much more as you make you way through the interactive American Turtle a replica of one of the first submarines used in combat.  Visitors will also discover the historical impact of the 1814 British raid on Essex in the Burning of the Fleet exhibit...  After you finish exploring the American Turtle, visitors can climb aboard the River Quest, a large 54-foot vessel.  The River Quest will take you on a beautiful journey along the historic waterway.  Here you will learn about an amazing place listed by the Nature Conservancy as one of the last great places, visitors will be able to observe the native flora and fauna.  Another great way to view the beautiful meadows, streams, forests and bridges of the Lower Connecticut River Valley is from a restored railroad car aboard the Essex Steam Train.  Everyone will enjoy a ride on the Essex Steam Train.
