Ozarks State Park

Is a great place to bring the entire
family when you are visiting Kansas City. The Ozarks State
Park is one of Kansas Cities most popular recreation areas. When you
visit the Ozarks Sate Park you will enjoy the solitude of an
undeveloped cove, nestled along the shorelines of one of Missouri's
largest lakes, Lakes of the Ozarks. This large State
Park covers over 17,626 acres offering visitors a variety of fun
outdoor activities on the lake or on shore. From the shore
visitors can enjoy mountain biking, hiking, backpacking or horseback
riding along one of twelve trails that wind through heavily, oak
wooded forests and out onto the bluff-top for spectacular views of
the lake. Another popular event is a self-guided tour of the
Ozark Caverns which are well known for a large formation of
stalactites and waterfalls known as Angels showers. So
come and discover what lies beneath the surface and walk through the
Ozark Caverns and see some of the largest, drained caves.
Visitors can witness deposited materials in the form of soda straws,
stalagmites, helictites and a host of additional geologic wonders.
Along with the unusual cave phenomenon called Angel Showers which is
part of the Ozark Caverns tour. Angel Showers is a never
ending shower of water that comes out from a solid ceiling of rock.
Angel Showers is truly amazing, visitors of all ages will enjoy
seeing these unusual water showers. Ozark Caverns is the
protected home to a variety of wildlife such as four different
species of salamanders & bats along with sixteen different species
of invertebrates. In fact, four of the sixteen invertebrates
live exclusively in the caves never venturing out of their protected
environment. Ozark Caverns is home to several small, shy
animals such as the blind grotto salamander, which can be see
occasionally on cave tours. The Ozark Caverns maintains a
constant temperature of 56-degrees so be sure you bring along a
light jacket on your cave tour.
