  • Arabia Steamboat Museum    Arabia Steamboat Museum Kansas City
Is a great place to begin discovering a piece of history while visiting  Kansas City.  The Arabia Steamboat Museum is located in Downtown Kansas City, and displays one of the greatest time capsules of frontier life during the 1800's.  The Arabia was headed up the Missouri River during the Fall of 1856 when the steamboat struck a tree snag and sank just north of Kansas City.  The Arabia cargo hold was full of more than 200 tons of supplies headed for general stores and several pioneers settlements.  As several years passed and the river changed it's course leaving the Arabia buried beneath a cornfield.   During 1988, modern adventurers discovered the sunken Arabia along with it's cargo.  They were amazed to discover dishware, clothing, and bottle food all preserved in remarkable condition.  So if you and your family are looking for an adventure head over to the Arabia Steamboat Museum and discover the many treasures of the Steamboat Arabia.  The Museum is open daily and visitors can take a guided tour which begins every thirty-minutes.  On your tour visitors will view a short film in the Paddlewheel Theater about the life and history of the Steamboat Arabia.  Visitors can also see the preservation lab which is always open for visitors to learn how the several tons of artifacts are cleaned & prepared for display.  Also on your tour you will pass the Arabia's engines & boilers located on the 171 foot long replicated deck of the Arabia.
