  • Statue of Liberty  Statue of Liberty in New York
Should not be missed when you visit New York.  Visitors of all ages will enjoy seeing the Statue of Liberty up close.  The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States to honor the friendship that was established during the French Revolution.  The Statue of Liberty is also an American symbol of freedom and to welcome the immigrants who come to the United states looking for a better life. The Statue of Liberty is one of the most visited attractions in New York, so allow plenty of time for your visit especially during the summer months when the lines for the ferry are longer.  When touring the Statue of Liberty allow two-three hours especially if you are taking a tour.  You will want to arrive at the ferry two hours prior so you will have plenty of time..  There are a few different tours of the Statue of Liberty; the audio tours, a new guided tour focusing on the engineering behind the monument, Promenade & Observation Tours and the Climb the Crown of the Statue of Liberty (visitors will be climbing over 300 stairs in both directions).  Due to the tragedy in September 2001, security is taken very seriously all visitors will clear security including an x-ray inspection of all bags and a walk through metal detectors before boarding the ferry.  As visitors enter the Statue of Liberty to visit the Crown, Museum or Pedestal will have to clear security again before entering the statue.  Did you know? when the statue was shipped from France she came in 350 pieces.  Once she was delivered, it took four months to put her together and she was completed on October 28, 1886.  Which ever tour you choose you will enjoy visiting the Statue of Liberty.
